Welcome To The Neighbors Inn

The Neighbors Inn Soup Kitchen is open every Wednesday from 5:00 pm to 6 pm and continues to provide healthy meals to the poor or lonely in our area. We are one of four soup kitchens in Patchogue. We serve anywhere from 50-80 meals each week. To date we have served over 50,000 meals since opening here in 1991.

We have wonderful, dedicated volunteers who come week after week to be of service to those in need. Some have been coming for many years.

Our guests also have access to warm clothes during the winter months. Leila Truman organizes that besides getting together Christmas goodies such as socks, toothbrushes, soaps and even small gifts, which are given to our guests during the holidays.

We are very fortunate to receive an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables during the summer form Dave's Farm Stand in Oakdale. We also receive a generous donation of fresh donuts each week from the Glenn Wayne Bakery. Arnold's warehouse in Oakdale also provides us with fresh bread. Meals On Wheels in Ronkonkoma has also been extremely generous in delivering fresh cakes, pastries as well as breads that they receive from Costco.

Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN) receives a grant from New York State, which is distributed to all the soup kitchens in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. These funds, plus generous donations from friends and the generosity of the Congregational Church of Patchogue who lets us use their kitchen and dining room facilities make it possible for us to continue to provide these services.

NEWS FROM NEIGHBOR’S INN

For lo, the season for warm clothing has passed, we hope.  Like you, Soup Kitchen volunteers are putting away winter wear and unpacking spring and summer clothes and are hanging up items on our give-away racks.

The trouble is there is almost no men’s wear to put out and that is what the majority of our Wednesday supper guests need ~ men’s wear.

Rumor is men like to keep their old and comfortable clothes from yesteryears.  But maybe we just need to help them find stuff.  Ask, aren’t there some souvenir shirts not needed?  Things like tees from golf matches, sports teams, from races or walks for cancer or guide dogs?  Things too large, too small, wrong color?  Think green, recycle them!  We need them.  What about your neighbors, can you ask?

One friend told our story last fall at garage sales and as a result the Lioness Club and World Outreach Church were both willing to bag unsold men’s wears at the end of their sales to be picked up and given to us.  Think about it.  Also, someone purchased 3 pair of almost new men’s jeans in a popular size for $3.00 each and gave them to us instead of a food donation.  (We need many sizes:  24”, 26”, and 28” especially).

We cannot forget and are grateful for all the anonymous donors whose gifts over the winter months, like manna seemed to arrive when and, as we needed them.  We have room to store some winter wear now and will be pleased to receive clothing in good condition for next year.
