"ON THE BATTLEFIELD"
Stephen Martin, baritone
From September through June, the choir is an integral part of the worship service of this congregation. Each week, the choir presents a choral introit, an anthem, a choral benediction, and any number of other choral offerings schemed up that week by the Pastor and the director.
Reverend Wolter has expressed his belief of the importance of music in meaningful worship. It has not been simply "lip-service", as he has created many opportunities to weave music into the fabric of the service. It is even no longer unusual for the choir or a soloist to play a role in the middle of a sermon. This further proves the notion that as a form of communication, the spoken word can fall short. This may be especially true of the profound subject matter such as the Gospel. At those times, it is music's job to express that which words cannot.
The dedication of the members of the choir never ceases to amaze me. Rehearsals are intense, demands are plenty, and the commitment is great, yet the singers just keep coming back. However, we all feel fortunate to do what we do. I can only hope that our music enhances the worship service in the same manner as it enriches our lives.
We have been very fortunate to work with several talented guest musicians. They included Kathy Ljungqvist (flute), Ken Borrmann (clarinet), Frank Cannon (percussion), and Selma Jaber (French horn and percussion).
