THIS IS THE DAY
Mamie Ozburn Odum

Today is the day God-given,
So be happy, joyous and gay;
Don’t wait for the coming tomorrow,
Be glad and live today.

Smile as your travel life’s journey,
Fill each mile with a merry song.
Don’t wait for the promised tomorrow,
Tomorrow may not come along.

The yesterdays have vanished,
Tomorrows will never be;
This day is the day God-given,
So make it gladsome and free.

Today we must help another,
Be ready, love, live and pray,
Be happy by helping a brother…
Give of your best today.

BASKETBALL CLINIC

We are pleased to announce a Basketball Clinic will be held in the gym beginning Saturday, March 13 though April 3rd for children in K through 4th grade. It will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. and coached by Kevin DelValle. Hats off to new member Kevin for offering this wonderful ministry to the church and community. He has been involved with basketball and baseball clinics for many years.

WELCOME

On Sunday, March 14, we welcome the Rev. Thomas W. Goodhue who will deliver the sermon. Our pastor will conduct the worship service. The Rev. Mr. Goodhue is Executive Director of the Long Island Council of Churches. He has pastored churches in Nassau, Suffolk, and Hawaii and has led youth ministry on Long Island and in California. He taught young children at the Riverside Church in Manhattan and has written several collections of stories for children. He is a popular preacher. We look forward to meeting him and he is looking forward to being with us. Please be in attendance on March 14th to give him a warm welcome!

YOU ARE INVITED

MARK THE DATE ~ SUNDAY, MARCH 14. We will have games and more games. We are talking about board games for all ages. We understand Carol Sitler has hundreds of them and will bring several down to the church for an afternoon of fun from 3 to 5 p.m. on the 14th. If you have a special game you haven’t played in a few years, let her know, she probably has it. Then after the dust has settled, we will sit down to a good old fashioned covered dish supper. Come for games and bring your covered dish with you; we can heat it up or keep it cold. Don’t want to play games? That’s okay ~ just come on down at 5 p.m. with your covered dish. A sign up chart is waiting for you on the Reception Room table. If, after the games, you do not want to stay and join for some good food and fellowship, that’s alright. Maybe we’ll catch you next time. This is being sponsored by the Prudential Board and its members will be supplying the beverage and the rolls and butter. Be sure to sign up for what you will bring (main dish, vegetable, salad, dessert, etc.) and how many from your family will be in attendance.

ART EXHIBIT COMING

The Art of Zig will be on exhibit in our Reception Room March 20-26, and an invitation is extended to attend an opening reception at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 20th. Zig is an artist whose work is based on juxtapositions of epic concepts and time periods. His work is both startling and humorous in its treatment of media and religion. His career has included classical painter, motorcycle designer, freelance artist, website designer, and former artist for Grumman Aerospace Corporation with contracts with NASA and the U.S. Army,. You are invited to come and see the art, meet the artist, enjoy refreshments, engage in lively conversation, and listen to techno-music with a live DJ at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 20th.

LOOKING FORWARD TO THE TEA

On Saturday, May 15th, we will again be presenting our “Pleasures of Tea,” This is not sponsored by any of the boards, just a “Tea” Committee. The Tea Committee would like to make this a church-wide fund raising event. With that in mind, we are asking each board to put together a theme basket to make up a Chinese Auction. We are also inviting individuals, or groups to participate in putting together a basket. If so, please let the committee know. If you would like to participate but do not have any ideas, any donation of money, or items will be appreciated and we will put them together to make a basket. All baskets will be uniformly packaged with the donors name or names, on it. Some theme suggestions are “Lavender Spa,” “Pindar Wine,” “Tea Basket,” “Garden Basket,” “Chocolate Lovers,” and many more. Please speak to one of the committee members for more information. They are Barbara Sabosto, Betsy Moger, Gerri Clements, Claudia Taylor, Marcie Deedy, Diana Wygand, Carole Rohde. We thank you for your support.

PERSON TO PERSON CONCERNS

Our sympathy is extended to Rick Disney and his family on the sudden death of a brother in Georgia. In the past several months, Rick has suffered the loss of three of his brothers.
On March 7th, Frances Dean will observe her 91st birthday. We send our love and birthday wishes.
Casey Wolter is one of two Suffolk County youth delegates attending a youth planning retreat at Painted Post, NY this weekend.

O God ~ when I have food,
Help me to remember the hungry;
When I have work,
Help me to remember the jobless;
When I have a warm home,
Help me to remember the homeless,
When I am without pain,
Help me to remember those who suffer,
And remembering,
Help me to destroy my complacency,
And bestir my compassion.
Make me concerned enough to help,
By word and deed, those who cry out ~
For what we take for granted.
Amen
